Organisation Information - Elite Guard [Schutzstaffel (SS)]

Without a doubt, the SS was the most feared, despised and infamous organization of the Third Reich.

The SS was formed in 1925 as a small subunit of the SA with the mission of serving as the Fuhrer's personal bodyguard.

The SS remained insignificant until 1929, when it was placed under the command of Heinrich Himmler.

After the "Night of the Long Knives" and the purge of the SA, the SS became independent, gained control over the national police forces and expanded into a massive organization.

This activity (Night of the Long Knives), managed by Himmler for Adolph Hitler, was the key starting point for the rise of the SS as the main N.S.D.A.P security and power organization. Himmler and the SS organization's loyalty to Hitler made sure that he had full control of Germany until the end of World War II.

Dagger Information SS Himmler Honour Dagger

The SS Himmler Honour Dagger was introduced in 1934 after the successful purge called "The Night of the Long Knives". It was presented to 200 members of the SS who took part in the purge.

The dagger is similar to the Rohm Honour Dagger in every way except for the change of Himmler's name replacing the name of Ernst Rohm on the dagger blade dedication.

The obverse of the dagger had the standard "Meine Ehre heisst Treue" (My Honour is Loyalty) with the Special "Honour" dedication being engraved onto the reverse side of the blade. The dedication read "In Herzlicher Freundschaft, H. Himmler" (In Cordial Comradeship, H. Himmler).

An accountability number was engraved on the bottom of the lower crossguard of each Honour Dagger and numbered from 0 to 200.
